Data Analyst

You take a source system from "here is our database" to "our people are asking Athena questions and getting the right answers back." Where a Business Analyst consumes a dataset someone else prepared, you create it: you connect the source, move the data on a schedule, model it in the semantic layer, and teach Athena to traverse it correctly. The subject areas a Business Analyst questions and the storyboards they build all rest on the model you configure.

Your work sits between raw data and business meaning, and both halves count. A connector without a well-structured pipeline is unreliable; a pipeline without a well-modeled semantic layer is unusable by Athena. Getting both right is what turns a database into an answer engine.

The surfaces you will spend the most time in:

  • Data Connectors and Data Sync for getting data in and moving it on a schedule
  • Semantic Layer Studio for turning it into subject areas, relationships, and drill-down paths
  • Smart Queries and versioning for governed metrics and safe deploys

Prerequisites

Confirm the following are in place before starting the learning sequence:

RequirementDetail
ConverSight accountProvisioned with the Data Admin role, reaching Workbench → Data Studio. Confirm this under Settings → Profile before Step 1.
Workspace URLThe web address of your organization's ConverSight workspace (for example, https://<yourorg>.conversight.ai). Confirm this with your administrator if it is not already bookmarked.
Login credentialsEither SSO through your organization's identity provider, or a ConverSight username and password. Multi-factor authentication may be required depending on workspace settings.
Internet connectionA stable connection throughout — ConverSight runs in the browser.
Supported browserA current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari is recommended.
Data sourceAccess to a source you can reach through a ConverSight data connector. The platform provides 120+ connectors spanning databases, spreadsheets, cloud storage, enterprise applications, and APIs, so you can use a system you already run.

Learning Objective

By completing this course, you will learn how to:

  • Access the ConverSight platform securely as a Data Analyst and confirm your role and permissions.
  • Register a source connector and build a Data Sync pipeline with sources, destinations, and streams.
  • Configure incremental replication with a tracking field, and choose a bookmark strategy and lookback window.
  • Model subject areas, business objects, and properties in the semantic layer.
  • Define relationships and drill-down paths so Athena can traverse multiple tables correctly.
  • Create Calculated and Smart custom properties, and write and publish Smart Queries.
  • Check in, deploy, and describe how to roll back a semantic model.

Learning Sequence

Five steps. Each pairs a how-to to Read, the work to Do, and a check to Verify before you move on.

Data Connectors, Data Sync, and Semantic Layer Studio all show enabled under Workbench.

Snag: If Data Studio is missing, the role does not yet reach it. Ask an org owner to assign it.
